My house had original 1950s single pane windows. You could feel thee drafts.
New windows went in today and I am so happy. 12 windows total. Double pane is sufficient for our climate.

Commit that window number to memory if you ever decide to remarry.
I was drinking dinner with a friend of mine yesterday and she’s in the process of applying for a green card and we were going over potential questions. One of the questions he lawyer told her may come up was “how many windows are in your house?”

Nice. We replaced our shitty aluminum-framed single pane windows about 2 years ago. The energy savings are real, but what I really like is how much quieter it is inside. We did 11, and one was a great big picture window sized slider.

Last fall I replaced my 1940 original windows for new double pane. The reduction in noise was just as good as the energy savings. I had to replace all the exterior doors too and that also helped.

My windows are about 105 years old and I have no plans to replace them. They’re still in perfect shape, inside and out. Single panes in Wisconsin? No problem. That’s why they put massive cast iron radiators under them.

I need to replace some windows, maybe I’ll get around to it this year. They’re God-knows-how-old wood-framed ones that take some elbow grease to slide. They’re crooked too, so fitting new ones in will be fun...
